Whether it’s a historic tram ride in Porto or the golden cliffs of Lagos, these spots are worth a visit—camera or not.
I’ll break them down by region so you can easily plan your itinerary. And since I prefer a slower pace, you’ll also find a few quiet gems that let you enjoy the moment before snapping the shot.

Lisbon has no shortage of stunning backdrops, whether you love historic landmarks, charming streets, or trendy spots. Start at Arco da Rua Augusta, where the view from the top stretches across the city and the Tagus River. Just a short walk away, the Carmo Church ruins offer a striking open-air setting with Gothic arches against the sky. In Belém, Belem Tower and Jeronimos Monastery showcase Portugal’s maritime past with intricate architecture that looks great from every angle.
For colourful streets, wander through Lisbon’s neighbourhood of Alfama, where laundry flutters on balconies and trams rattle past tiled facades. Over in LX Factory, street art and stylish cafes make for an artsy vibe, while Pink Street lives up to its name—best visited early before the crowds arrive.

While the interiors aren’t open to visitors, you can wander the open plaza, climb the terraces, and watch the sunset from the outdoor amphitheater—all with a sleek, futuristic backdrop.
Lisbon’s hilltop setting means no shortage of scenic viewpoints, but Miradouro da Senhora do Monte stands above the rest—literally. As the city’s highest miradouro, it offers sweeping views stretching to the Tagus River. Most Instagrammable Places in Algarve
The Algarve’s dramatic coastline and charming seaside towns make it a dream for photography lovers. From golden cliffs and hidden coves to whitewashed villages, every turn offers a postcard-worthy scene.
Praia da Marinha and Praia da Falésia are famous for their striking rock formations and endless ocean views, while Praia do Camilo and Praia dos Três Irmãos feel like secret escapes with their winding staircases and tucked-away beaches. For rugged coastal beauty, Ponta da Piedade is a must, with its towering cliffs and sea arches.

There’s one show stopper, which, due to weather conditions when visiting, we were unable to reach it and that is Benagil Cave.
Benagil Cave is one of the Instagram spots in the Algarve not to be missed. This massive sea cave, with its open skylight and arches framing the ocean, is a favourite for photos. It’s a popular spot, so arriving early is key if you want a shot without crowds. The only way to reach it is by swimming, kayaking, or taking a boat tour from Benagil Beach—no walking path leads there!

Sintra feels like a fairytale, with its misty forests, ornate palaces, and centuries-old castles creating endless photo opportunities.
The Old Town, with its narrow streets and colourful facades, is a great place to start. For sweeping views, head to Castelo dos Mouros, where ancient stone walls overlook the valley below. Pena Palace, with its vibrant red and yellow towers, is one of the most photographed landmarks in Portugal.
